Lessons from a Christian business owner…

When I started my business in 2018, I felt lost. I knew in my heart that it was my purpose to start a calligraphy business that focused on making greeting cards. Yet, all I had was inspiration from the Lord, my pastor and prayers. With no real sense of direction, I heavily relied on prayer for God’s guidance. Since those humble beginnings, He has opened so many doors and led me to so many resources, along with people to encourage me along the way!

If you’ve been dreaming of starting your business or just need some encouragement along the way, you’ve come to the right place. As a Christian mama and business owner, I strongly believe in the power of building community. It is my hope and prayer to share my experiences and pave a path to living an inspired life of faith and joy. You may not always see the path plainly in front of you and sometime you’ll have to take a leap of faith. Other times, you’ll make mistakes that will be stepping stones to greater accomplishments that you never dreamed possible. Over time, you’ll find yourself growing stronger and you’ll feel your wings spreading. It’s all a part of the growing process my friend, and I’m here to let you know that you CAN do this!

Some of my biggest “failures” have actually turned into my biggest blessings. I started with a mindset of wanting to have everything in my business set up overnight, but with every step I took, it taught me the old adage my mom used to say all the time “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” It taught me the power of growing slow. Growing slow showed me that starting somewhere is better than never starting. If it’s one thing I know, starting small is perfectly fine. Starting with where you are and what you have is what builds character. When everything is easy, we take it for granted. We don’t enjoy the rain and end up complaining instead of finding a way to move forward.

There were times where I felt stuck and didn’t take action. Other times I felt like I wasn’t good enough. Suffering from imposter syndrome was such a huge struggle to overcome because I spent so much time comparing myself to others who’d had years of experience. Trust me, this the WORST thing you can do. It hinders you from staying in your own lane and appreciating your personal journey. It gives you a sense of inferiority rather than allowing you to see yourself objectively. Sure, it’s alright to take inventory and realize where you can improve, but don’t let comparison hinder you from seeing the strength of your uniqueness. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, meaning that no two of us are exactly alike. As a mom of a set of identical twins, I’ve witnessed this first hand. They may look alike, and even have similar traits but they have very distinctive differences.

There’s a phrase that my pastor said and it has resonated with me ever since. “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” I would get stuck in the planning phase and never implement certain things because I was afraid of trying. Even more afraid of failing. Once I realized these fears, I prayed for courage and faith. I started taking steps in areas where I’d been holding back. I began to pray for the impossible so I could do more in my business. His miracles have exceeded my expectations every single time. Being an entrepreneur is truly a faith walk. One of my favorite Scriptures is 2 Corinthians 5:7 — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (KJV) I can truly say that my spiritual walk has made such an impact on my business, because the closer I draw to the Lord, the more I depend on Him to lead me. I need Him to help me run my business because He gave me the dream to do this and I want to glorify Him in all I do.

My greatest encouragement to you is to remind you to follow your heart. Listen to that inner voice way down inside. Don’t be afraid to be different. These are the small details that make a huge impact on your journey. When you want to build a business that’s built on faith, you’ll find that everything has a season and happens in God’s perfect timing. Allow your frustrations to teach you how to wait on Him. Pray for guidance and seek the Lord by reading His word. Even Jesus prayed during His time on earth. He also taught his disciples to do the same.

I hope and pray that sharing my heart opens up an area in your life for you to bloom. We are but mere servants in the Master’s plan, and every seed planted will only grow with the proper care.

Thank you for being here and let me know what you’d like to see me share more of.

Until next time, be encouraged even in the quiet waiting season. Something’s happening behind the scenes, even if you don’t see it yet.

Gratefully yours,

Angenise Rawls
